StoneNest Privacy Policy

Effective date: upon adoption at launch

This Privacy Policy explains how StoneNest LLC, an Indiana limited liability company ("StoneNest," "we," "us"), handles information in connection with the website at stonenest.app (the "Site"), the free online estimator (the "Estimator"), and the StoneNest desktop application.

The short version: We collect very little. The Site uses cookieless analytics that require no consent banner. The Estimator runs in your browser and does not send us your job data. We only email you if you ask us to, we never sell your data, and you can unsubscribe anytime.

1. What we collect — and what we deliberately do not

Plain-English summary: analytics events (no cookies), the email you choose to give us, and nothing else of substance.

We collect:

  • Cookieless analytics about Site and Estimator usage (Section 2).
  • Your email address and any details you type into a form, but only when you choose to submit one of our forms — the waitlist, beta access, or the Estimator full-report request (Section 3).
  • Basic technical data that any web server receives (such as a truncated/approximate view via our analytics processor); we do not build advertising profiles.
  • Desktop app check-in data — when the app is connected to the internet it checks in with us on launch and about once a day while it stays open (in every mode, including free trials), sending a license key identifier and license email when one exists, a one-way hash of your machine's device fingerprint, the app version and edition, and coarse usage counts (number of launches, bids created, nests run, and DXF exports). It never sends your files, layouts, dimensions, or customer data (Section 5).

We deliberately do not collect:

  • We do not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies, so we do not show a cookie-consent banner.
  • We do not receive the job data you enter into the Estimator (Section 4).
  • The StoneNest desktop app never sends your DXF files, layouts, dimensions, job data, or customer information — nesting happens entirely on your PC, and the content of your work stays there. What the app does send is the small check-in described in Section 5: license identity and coarse usage counts, nothing about the substance of your work.
  • We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

2. Analytics — cookieless, via Umami

Plain-English summary: we use privacy-friendly analytics with no cookies, and estimator events are coarse ranges, not your actual numbers.

2.1 We use Umami (Umami Cloud) as our analytics processor. Umami is a cookieless, privacy-focused analytics service: it does not set tracking cookies, does not collect cross-site identifiers, and does not build advertising profiles. Because there are no tracking cookies, no consent banner is required.

2.2 We record simple, aggregated events such as page views and product events (for example, estimator_run, email_captured, beta_download, waitlist_join).

2.3 Bucketed estimator events. Any values attached to Estimator events are bucketed into coarse ranges rather than your actual figures. For example, instead of your exact slab count we may record slabs:"10-20". We do this specifically so that analytics cannot reveal your job details.

3. Email you choose to give us

Plain-English summary: we use the email you submit for the purpose you asked for, plus product updates, and you can opt out anytime.

3.1 We collect an email address only through our explicit opt-in forms — waitlist, beta access, and the Estimator full-report request. Submitting a form is a single, clear opt-in with purpose text shown at the point of collection.

3.2 We use your email to fulfill the request you made (for example, to send beta-download access or the full estimator report) and to send occasional product updates about StoneNest.

3.3 Unsubscribe anytime. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link and our mailing address. Unsubscribing stops product-update emails; we may still send transactional messages you specifically request (for example, a license key or a receipt).

4. The Estimator processes your job data locally

Plain-English summary: your estimator inputs stay on your device.

The Estimator runs in your web browser. The dimensions, quantities, slab size, kerf, and offset you enter are processed on your device to compute your estimate. This job data is not transmitted to us or stored on our servers. The only information leaving your browser about an Estimator run is the cookieless, bucketed analytics event described in Section 2.

5. The desktop app — works offline, checks in when connected

Plain-English summary: the app works offline; when it has internet it checks in with us — sending license identity and coarse usage counts, never your files or job data.

The StoneNest desktop application works offline day to day: nesting runs entirely on your PC, and your DXF files, layouts, dimensions, job data, and customer information never leave your machine.

When the app starts, and about once a day while it stays running, it performs a check-in with stonenest.app. The check-in happens in every mode — paid subscriptions, free trials, and Estimator Mode alike. Each check-in transmits only:

  • your license key identifier and license email, when a license exists,
  • a one-way hash of your machine's device fingerprint (used to observe seat usage — one active seat per machine),
  • the app version and edition/mode, and
  • coarse usage counts — the number of app launches, bids created, nests run, and DXF exports since the last successful check-in.

It does not transmit your files, layouts, dimensions, job names, customer names, or any content of your work — counts of actions, never the substance of them. A check-in is also how the app learns that an update or a refreshed license is available; installing an update always asks you first, in the app.

If the app cannot reach us, nothing changes: it keeps working normally, and a failed check-in never interrupts or degrades anything by itself. Paid subscriptions keep full features through a 35-day offline grace window even with no successful check-in; only after that does the app revert to the free Estimator Mode until a check-in succeeds. Purchases and license delivery are handled by the processors named in Section 6.

6. Service providers (processors) we use

Plain-English summary: a short, honest list of the companies that help run StoneNest.

ProcessorPurposeNotes
Umami (Umami Cloud)Cookieless website/estimator analyticsNo tracking cookies; bucketed events
ResendSending email you request (beta access, reports, license keys, receipts)Transactional email
CloudflareWebsite hosting, DNS, email routing for our inbound addresses, and the license issuance / check-in endpointSite delivery, email forwarding, and subscription license validation
Paddle (merchant of record)Processing purchases of the desktop appPaddle is the seller of record and handles payment data under its own privacy policy

We share personal information with these providers only as needed to run StoneNest, and they are bound to protect it.

7. How we use information

Plain-English summary: to run and improve the Site and product, and to send what you asked for.

We use the limited information we collect to: operate and improve the Site and Estimator; respond to your requests; deliver beta access, reports, license keys, and receipts; send product updates you have opted into; maintain security and prevent abuse; and comply with law. We do not use your information for third-party advertising, and we do not sell or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

8. Data retention

Plain-English summary: we keep things only as long as we need them.

We keep email-list data until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, and analytics data in aggregated form. Desktop-app check-in records (Section 5) are retained as ordinary operating logs — used to operate licensing, understand product usage, and observe seat activity — and you may ask us to delete the records associated with your license (Section 9). Because neither the Estimator nor the desktop app transmits your job data to us, there is nothing of that kind for us to retain.

9. Your choices and rights

Plain-English summary: you can unsubscribe, and you can ask us about your data — including the California basics below.

9.1 Unsubscribe / opt out of marketing email at any time via the link in any such email.

9.2 Access, correction, deletion. You may contact us at support@stonenest.app to ask what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. We honor reasonable requests regardless of whether a specific law requires it.

9.3 California residents (CCPA basics). Although StoneNest does not currently meet the thresholds that make the California Consumer Privacy Act mandatory, we honor its core principles as a matter of policy: you may request to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we hold about you, request deletion, and opt out — and we do not sell or share your personal information. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. To make a request, email support@stonenest.app.

10. Children's data

Plain-English summary: our services aren't for children.

The Site, Estimator, and desktop app are intended for business users and are not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where applicable). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. International visitors

Plain-English summary: we're a US business; using the Site means your data is handled in the US.

StoneNest is operated from the United States. If you access the Site from outside the US, you understand your information will be processed in the US. We minimize data collection so there is little to transfer.

12. Security

Plain-English summary: we take reasonable measures, but no system is perfect.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Changes to this policy

Plain-English summary: we'll post updates here with a new date.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes take effect when posted with an updated effective date.
